Nanouk | COMMON NAME / BOTANICAL NAME Nanouk / Tradescantia albiflora OVERVIEW Also known as Fantasy Venice, this is THE trending plant right now on Instagram because of its pretty bright green, pink & purple, fuzzy-ish leaves growing on chunky stems. It’s not like any other Tradescantia because it’s a new variety grown by cross-pollinating two selected seedlings of Tradescantia albiflora in the Netherlands in 2012. While it’s the new “it” plant, it’s not a difficult plant. In fact, it’s one of the easiest houseplants to care for, which makes it a great choice for beginners! Fun Fact: Tradescantia nanouk is a patented plant developed in the Netherlands to create new hardy and vigorous Tradescantia plants with beautiful flower coloration and high-grade performance. LIGHT This plant does well in bright, indirect sunlight or full sun. TEMPERATURE It prefers normal room temperatures and can tolerate up to 43°C / 75°F during the day. At night it needs to be kept above 12°C / 55°F so try to avoid cold draughts. WATER Water once a week or when the top inch of the soil is dry. Be careful not to overwater. It is less likely to be sensitive to humidity due to its thick leaves. FOOD Feed your Nanouk once or twice a month with houseplant fertilizer diluted to half the recommended strength. TIPS Overwatering is the main problem of Nanouk as it can cause fungal infections and root rot. PETS Poisonous to pets. |
