Chinese Evergreen | COMMON NAME / BOTANICAL NAME Chinese Evergreen ‘Cocomelon’ / Aglaonema ‘cocomelon’ OVERVIEW One of the rarest Aglaonema’s, the Cocomelon boasts rosy pink midribs and variegation across the gigantic jade leaves and produces fantastic spathe flowers. It is a great choice for a plant collector looking to add something rare and unusual to their collection. With the right care, this will grow into a massive giant with no reduction in the blush colouration that makes it so special. Somewhere dark is best, but that's not to say it won't do well in a brighter spot as well. Anywhere out of direct sunlight will be absolutely fine. Just bear in mind that if it's in a brighter spot, it will be incredibly thirsty! TEMPERATURE It's got to be hot to thrive! This is the main reason for failure with these lovely plants. Try to keep it as warm and humid as possible. WATER They're a thirsty variety, with at least some moisture always required in the soil. Do be careful with watering on cold nights though, as the stalks can turn yellow with rot. FOOD Use full strength plant food throughout spring and summer once every second watering. TIPS If you notice yellowing at the base of the stems and a few leaves looking no longer at their best, it could very well be that the plant has gotten cold whilst wet. Try your best to keep it warm and remove bits of rotting stem to prevent it spreading. PETS Toxic to pets. |
